In today's world, the search for serenity and spirituality appears universal. A concept common to both Hinduism and Buddhism, dharma is defined as the principle or law that governs the universe.
The Dharma looks to the beauty of Gandaran and Tibetan artforms, seamless amalgams of Buddhist and Hindu styles, as inspiration for this collection of contemplative objects to encourage a sense of peace and aid in achieving calm.
Mudras are a non-verbal form of expression using hand gestures. Used as external expressions of inner resolve, they give significance to sculptural images, dance movements and meditative poses. They are said to have been in use in Asian cultures and religions since antiquity but their origin remains a mystery.
The Dharma collection includes five figurines, four of which feature symbolic hand gestures or mudras that have existed in Asian cultures and religions since antiquity.
They are the Abhaya Mudra (a gesture of protection), Bhutadamara Mudra (a gesture of warding off evil), Vitarka Mudra (a gesture of intellectual desire) and Namaskara Mudra (a gesture of adoration and salutation). Another figurine is that of Avalokitesvara, a Bodhisattva of compassion. Its serene expression exudes a sense of calmness that beckons those who need solace.
Perfect as gifts and home decorations, the Dharma collection is available at all Royal Selangor retail stores and authorised dealers, and online at royalselangor.com. |
