Royal Selangor's Auspicious plaques celebrate high aspirations and lofty ideals. Rich in symbolism, the elegant designs are not only attractive but also inspiring.
The collection comprises four designs - Eagle, Tiger, Goldfish and Peony as well as Horses and Clouds. Positive values and admirable qualities are conveyed through ink brush renderings and relief sculpturing reproduced in pewter.
The Eagle and Tiger plaques successfully combine pewter craftsmanship with traditional Chinese artistry. Rendered in Chinese ink and brush style, the giant eagle and roaring tiger come alive with subtle nuances in tones achieved through unique painting techniques to portray their majestic charm and regal presence. Standing out against the soft pewter sheen, they lend a unique characteristic to the designs.
The image of a giant eagle riding the wind symbolises high aspiration and lofty ideals. When it soars, it is believed to generate immense energy because of its sheer size. According to ancient belief, the tiger is a symbol of power, ferocity and strength. A roaring tiger represents pride and a fearless spirit, exhibiting its valour and vigour.
'The Goldfish and Peony' as well as 'Horses and Clouds' plaques are both great examples of fine pewter craftmanship, encapsulating a vivid depiction of their respective themes. While the composition of the blossoming peony and nine goldfish swimming in the pond convey a sense of peace and wealth, the image of twin horses galloping under the clear blue sky presents a picture of confidence and success. Both plaques are enriched by meaningful and auspicious messages. |
