Ushering in the Year of the Ox with Royal Selangor
Royal Selangor welcomes the 2009 Year of the Ox with a selection of collectibles to commemorate the year. Comprising a limited edition plaque, tea caddy, figurines and a set of chopsticks and rest, the collection is perfect to usher in good fortune and prosperity.
Inspired by the second animal in the Chinese zodiac calendar, the ox is a symbol of strength and determination. An animal which never loses sight of its goals, it attains them by persistently clearing all obstacles in its path. Those born under this sign are said to be strong-willed, uncompromising and dependable. The arrival of the ox is considered a sign of change, bringing with it progress and positive energy.
The highlight of the collection is the limited edition plaque. Depicting a bull in a leaping posture, the composition conveys the sense of charging ahead to attain the highest goals and infinite success. Consistent with the zodiac series launched last year, the energetic bull is set against a lattice backdrop within an elegant timber frame enhanced with delicate yulan or magnolia motifs in pewter gilt in 24K gold.
The plaque's interplay of symbols, motifs and shapes conveys auspicious messages and is complemented by a couplet that expresses good wishes for greater achievement in the New Year. A limited edition of 1000 units has been produced for this year.
In addition to the plaque, Year of the Ox collection also includes two figurines, a tea caddy and a set of chopsticks and chopstick rest. Decorated with auspicious motifs and symbols, they are perfect pieces to convey wishes of good fortune and prosperity for the New Year.
Symbolising abundance and good fortune, the tea caddy is decorated with sculpted rendering of golden grain. Chinese characters depicted on the tea caddy reinforce wishes for a rewarding year ahead. A wooden cap engraved with a motif of an ox complements the satin finished pewter.
The strong and dependable ox is also represented in Royal Selangor's figurines. Depicted in a seating posture, the ox is depicted as the cornerstone of success. Embodying foresight and willpower, the ox symbolizes the attainment of success by removing obstacles. The pewter figurines in two sizes are embellished with foliate patterns and mounted on a wooden base in teak finishing.
Complementing the rest of the items in the collection is a set of chopsticks and chopstick rest featuring the steadfast ox. |
